This just seems to be the legitimising of Ruby Central stealing RubyGems and Bundler. Hell, the person who originally did all the maintainer fuckery on the GitHub repos (Hiroshi Shibata) is a member of Ruby core, so this could have very well been the plan all along.
@dgerard good. Now take over Rails.
@dgerard I feel kids sorry for Matz that he had to deal with this. He’s an (almost too) nice guy and I suspect he really, *really* didn’t want to have to. Props to him for doing it, though.
@dgerard @swelljoe I’ve lost track – so Ruby Gems is now controlled by Ruby Core (better than being controlled by DHH); RubyGems.org is still controlled by Ruby Central, held to ransom by DHH and Shopify, but without influence over the actual Ruby Gems components; and the independent gem.coop is still happening to provide an alternative to… RubyGems.org?
Did I get that right?
@dgerard I’m just using the stuff, hope it stays reasonably secure and available. Is this https://biggo.com/news/202510171913/_Ruby-Core-Takes-Over-RubyGems-Bundler a correct run-down of the sequence of events?
@dgerard lol. lmao.
