Funny, but that’s a pretty disgusting oversimplification.

And anyway, the correct term is gaslamping.
Easier method than actually explaining what it means
Loses a lot of the nuance in the reality of it though. Kinda bothers me how popular of a term its become, because it’s a hell of a lot more insidious than just “lying to someone” or “telling someone they’re wrong”.
I’ve been through gaslighting. I literally thought I was losing my mind, and I still default to accepting other peoples’ recollection of events rather than my own. It’s terrifying, thinking that you might not be able to trust your own memory.
And the misuse of the term can become a horrible kafka trap. “You’re gaslighting me!” No I’m not. “See! You’re doing it right now!”
