Unforch the long grass is right next to the tiny area I have for my pots so they’d be back to munching in five. I don’t use poisons so chalk, eggshells, beer and the like would frequently be rained away and require constant replenishment
This is why I didn’t deliberately plant veg again
Edit: fwiw I generally aim for them to land on grass in the neighbours yard (the ones whose invasive creeping grass took over my meagre portion). I don’t deliberately hurt them
I move them over to the long grass near the compost and just make the garden unattractive to them

Copper tape.
Seriously, copper tape. It forms a tiiiny little electric fence. You can also cut rings out of old pots, line them and make mobile fences
This is sounding like something that costs money or would get procrastinated until it’s never done :(
My mo is usually to pull them inside at night or put an upturned plastic tub over them at night until they’ve reached a less vulnerable stage
