I hope Corey Tailor doesn’t do anything bad soon.

        From 2020:

“I think that’s what’s happened, we’ve seen too many people pushed off the cancel culture cliff who didn’t really deserve it, because of this all-or-nothing quote-unquote morality that the left has.

“It’s so fucking full of shit and so hypocritical that it’s going to bite them in the ass. It used to be that there was a real moral center, honestly to both sides, and now we’ve abandoned that for the extremes.”

        🤷

Not a slipknot fan but that looks so much worse taken out of context. You’re practically proving his overall point lol

He’s saying the left will dogpile someone if they even say one thing they disagree with. Look at your comment…He’s right. The purity tests on the left are infuriating.

He COULD be more vocal about his political opinions but he’s a musician. I can’t fathom how stressful it would be knowing you’ll get attacked by fans and the media for any innocuous comment. If that happened to me, I’d just stop sharing my opinions publicly…Which is kind of what he did.

Quite interesting that’s your interpretation. I didn’t include the whole article to sate your need for maximum context, but I did link it.

See, what I think is the problem with what he’s saying is that he’s been doing this "both sider"ism, which is nonsense. You don’t need to think one side is with the angels and the others are devils, but to morally equate them is naive at best.

So it’s interesting that the point you’re picking up on is when he’s talking about cancel culture, so a good question to ask here is “who do you think has been wrongly cancelled?”, which sadly the interviews at the time don’t much delve into.

I assume you don’t listen to Rage Against The Machine because they’re too political? Or Megadeth? Dead Kennedys? Pearl Jam? Bruce Springsteen? System of a Down? U2? There’s a political dimension to most lyrics, even if you miss it.

He isn’t bothsidesing to say that politics are polarized on both sides. And he did nothing wrong by elaborating on the purity test bullshit on the left. He doesn’t even say he disagrees with the left (he did support Bernie after all), he just hates that one imperfect comment gets you dragged on social media. Kind of like this. So he just avoids talking politics. His biggest crime here was using the phrase “cancel culture”

And that is a weird assumption since I never said music shouldn’t be political. I said he’s within his rights to not talk about it

                purity test

This thought-terminating cliche is an admission on the part of the person using it that they have no standards and expect everyone to their left to abandon theirs.

It’s a general term for what my side tends to do and it’s accurate. You are truly blind to pretend it’s not a problem, the left is anything but unified

It’s a general term for what my side tends to do and it’s accurate.

Your side uses the term to minimize legitimate criticism of your own worst actions because you want to continue or worsen them.

You are truly blind to pretend it’s not a problem, the left is anything but unified

Demands for unity from the “party unity my ass” wing. You want unity? Move left and show some damned solidarity with someone not named cheney or netanyahu.

Why do you assume I’m left? And am applying a purity test? I’m just pointing out words that left his mouth and felt happy at being published without attaching a value judgement.

You’re rather missing the point. The left right paradigm neglects another dimension of freedom. Most of the “both siders” want to equate authoritarian right wing statements with moderate left wing in order to create a false equivalency and implying that they’re all the same, and stuff like this shifts the Overton window towards right wing authoritarianism.

Certainly, he’s well within his rights not to discuss politics. Counter to your point, he’s actually been pretty happy to discuss his politics. Not just supporting Bernie but happy to call those who voted for the current POTUS “fucking morons”.

Complaining about cancel culture is pretty low rent and makes me wonder why he did.

“The Left”? You mean American liberals or like the actual left?
