At that age and condition with the shit he’s done, he’s desperate and will believe anything that gives him a chance. He’s a narcissist. He needs it to be about him even imagining he’s dead. That’s why the Nobel Prize and afterlife are probably consuming his thoughts. The Whitehouse ballroom, too, is a way of him to try to live on.
