Carbon pencil and white charcoal on tinted paper. A tricky portrait for me, as the face is largely in shadow and the facial planes are a little unclear. A fun exercise for practicing hair.
This is so good. I love how you detailed the face and hair, but loosened up in the clothing. The intensity of the stare is great too. You really know how to play with the light with a subdued palette.
I meant to dash this sketch off quickly and then got really wrapped up in how to get the face in shadow. Then by the time I finished the hair I was about at the end of my attention span–hence the loose approach to the clothing. I really appreciate your detailed feedback–thanks so much!
