The Trump’s administration is citing the government shutdown in explaining why it's holding up roughly $18 billion for a new rail tunnel beneath the Hudson River between New York City and New Jersey and an extension of the city’s Second Avenue subway.

The White House budget director, Russ Vought, said on a post on X that the step was taken due to the Republican administration’s belief the money was based on unconstitutional diversity, equity and inclusion principles.

The suspension of funds is likely meant to target Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer of New York, whom the White House is blaming for the shutdown.

    Sounds like a great lawsuit — since the funds were already approved and appropriated by congress. This kind of rug pulling mid-project needs to be nipped in the bud.
