That was incredible. I wasn’t completely sold on this show at first, but that was the second time in 13 episodes that it’s absolutely blown me away. I found the whole thing extremely charming. My only criticism is that it was difficult to keep track of that many characters in that much runtime.

The Matsuri-Eri conclusion was expected. The musical was not. Made me think about that episode of Sayonara Zetsubou where they did one as well.

It’s hard to rank shows. I rate shows just by vibes and nothing objective. Thus comparing anime that I have seen with a long time apart is hard because I can’t really compare the feeling. Is this as good as Nichijou? The art and animation is. CITY certainly didn’t make the impact Nichijou made on me. But back when I watched Nichijou I was a different man. One that was in the awakening of his appreciation for slice of life. CITY certainly is an welcome addition in this decade of SOL.

I do not have much criticism, but I do have a little. The sad/emotional parts didn’t quite hit for me. It wasn’t bad but it didn’t hit super hard. Before watching CITY the animation I watched ARIA the animation. That might have something to do with.

    I really liked that part.

Come to [email protected] for some after care (both Nichijou and CITY).

The summer is over and so is City. It was nice posting in these threads while it lasted.
Anyway at the end I feel like I don’t really like this anime. There were some nice moments and a few funny bits, but overall… nah. This final episode especially felt like most of it was the creator torturing me knowing that I’d want to finish it now that I’ve come so far.

Sadly I can’t really put my finger on what exactly this show was lacking for me. I like comedy, I like slice of life… idk maybe there were too many characters or smth

I think I can agree. I won’t go so far as to say that I didn’t like it, and I’m not sure what I wanted out of it, but I do feel like it was lacking that je ne sais quoi that would make it exceptional.

It did have a few standout episodes, but for some reason I didn’t feel as invested in all the many narratives that were going on. Maybe it really was just that too much was going on at once. Like so many times I didn’t understand the relationships between the characters.

The animation was top notch though. Kyoto Animation really knocked it out of the park there at least.

Oh yeah no complaints in the animation quality department.
I now really think that having so many people with so many relationships was what is stopping me from enjoying this anime so much.
But I guess that means the name is accurate: we really do see the goings on of the entire city, not just an inner circle with side characters.

Though now we know why this formula is everywhere, the information overload is real.

My understanding is that the anime adopted the volume at a crazy pace, like one episode per volume or something. I wonder if the huge cast was easier to keep track of in the manga.

Yeah, I guess they adapted 13 volumes in 13 episodes, with a lot of content skipped. This is my one complaint about the show as well, that it really could have used the full 26 episodes that Nichijou had.

I was disappointed that the dub did not get the English voice actors to sing the finale. I know that it is extremely difficult to translate music lyrics and make it match the music. But even a terrible effort would have been appreciated, by me at least. I know many people would feel the opposite.
