There’s ~35,000 US troops actively deployed on US soil because of this narcissist. At what point do the people collectively revolt? I live in a relatively large city in the western US, and regularly disheartened by the small turnouts to protest these blatant violations of our rights…

The whole point of this exercise is to inspire a revolt to justify a crackdown to create a crisis he can use to keep hold of power when his term is up.

Exactly this. Do not take the bait.

Let those troops stand around doing nothing.

Take your rage and turn it into something positive for now.

So he hasn’t even been in power a year and has done so much. And your “solution” is just do nothing. So when things get worse is your solution going to be the same?

The problem is, there are more people in Portland with guns and a hatred for ICE than the number of agents that will be deployed here.

I don’t really predict this will end well. For anyone.

As long as the revolt leads to a revolution, which seems to be the natural order of things, any human even vaguely similar to him would never hold that seat again. Igniting the fire which leads to his own removal from office doesn’t seem like a power move. Unless he’s playing 4D chess I can’t comprehend, he’s simply acting as a dictator before that’s official. This should unquestionably result in his removal from office, unless the majority of citizens are brainwashed…which I haven’t seen up to this point.

Revolt won’t lead to revolution. People are still to comfortable here. Anyways, if there were a revolution, there is no telling who would end up on top, but it’s hardly likely to be an improvement. It’s going to be whomever can rally the most wealth, media, and angry supporters behind them. I don’t like what that would be in the US today.

Do something now or do nothing forever.

        The results are the same.

No decent people will escape this. No person who thinks this will pass, or maybe I’ll be fine will make it unscathed.

        This is literally war.

He sent troops. Military. Against the population it is sworn to defend.

What do you hope will happen?

“We have to do something, and something stupid is all I can think of so YOLO!”

No, we are not compelled to throw our bodies and the bodies of our allies on bayonets just because they are being presented to us.

The majority of those soldiers are not going to follow orders to kill peaceful civilians. Most are on our side. We do need to keep the protests up to maintain visibility for both allies and enemies. We should also pursue harm reduction strategies to protect impacted minorities, like the underground railroad or the hiding of Jews in WWII.

One thing this administration has proven over and over again is that they are only willing to stick their own necks out so far. Trump desperately wants to be a fascist but he just doesn’t have the balls to take the risks to get there.

The one bit of work that desperately needs to get done is continuing to convince Democratic voters that we can no longer afford to let elites rule the Democratic party, or let corporate media define all the framing for our politics. Trump is going to implode, but right now the Democrats are pathetically ill-equiped to capitalize on it. If we get a Democrat in 2028 and that Democrat is another corporate stooge like Clinton, Obama, and Biden were, the country really is over.

Bread and games has been perfected by the U.S.

There is still a lot more misery ahead before i see anyone risking their literal lives. At this point i think leaving the U.S. is the best idea forward. Not sure tho as most western countries go down a worrying road. (i am just too ignorant to talk about anything outside of “the west”)

Most “leftists” by now are content with talking smack online and consuming “critically”. Yeah mate thats not gonna do shit.
