    Fun Fact: It was cheaper than liquor for a time, despite being a mixture of alcohol and opium, because it was classified as a medicine and exempt from a punitive liquor tax.

      Sounds similar to the situation in Northern Europe: alcohol is taxed like crazy, it is much cheaper to get a prescription drug.
