President Donald Trump has announced that U.S. Space Command will be located in Alabama. It reverses a decision by former President Joe Biden's administration to keep it in Colorado.
Space Command (SPACECOM) is a command structure in the military that controls military stuff in space, from all branches. This is different than the Space Force, which is a branch of the military, although space force stuff are a big part of what makes up SPACECOM. So are any army, Navy, or air Force satellites in orbit, though for example.
The US military is divided into geographic regions, such as Indo-Pacific Command (INDOPACOM), Europe (EUCOM), AFRICOM, etc etc. Each of the “regional” commands has control of all the operational forces in their region from every branch of the military. So, an easy example is that the Navy makes ships and then kind of gives them to a geographic commander to use for whatever missions that are under that command’s purview.
There’s a few that aren’t bound to region but instead to function, like TRANSCOM (Transport) and STRATCOM (nukes).

So essentially Trump is moving the HQ for the geographic space command to a new spot.
