And the subsequent, “You know, this would’ve been a lot faster and less painful for everybody if you’d explained what you were going for six months ago”

I feel this in my bones. As a child, I remember telling my mother something along the lines of

Of course I photocopied the relevant section of the text book and gave it in as my homework. The teacher asked for the information. What was I supposed to do?

Oh. Well, I didn’t understand I was supposed to get something out of it, I just did what I was told. You have to tell me why, or I won’t do it.

I never really considered that NT people might not operate like that.

Crossposting my own comment from the other thread

I’m in the spectrum myself, I feel this. But I also have to mention that my experience has shown me that when you go down this road, you might need to argue with an asd person who doesn’t get it and wants to keep arguing, and sometimes there’s just no time for that. Sometimes we need to recognise when someone else is an expert and defer to their opinion instead of forcing them to be an unwilling and unpaid tutor. If they’re not an expert otoh and are just an authority (boss, landlord, whatever) then argue away but recognise that unfortunately there can be consequences for arguing with authority, so be prepared and know when to back down for your own well being

I have AuDHD and I have trouble remembering instructions without knowing the reasoning behind the procedure. If I’m taught something by people who understand that reasoning I’m so much more engaged and curious in the learning

It’s a curse, but goddamn if I understand the “why” about something I’ll do so well.

If it wasn’t so goddamn energy intensive to function as expected by nuerotypicals, we’d be gods.

I hated math in school, then I started working at a grocery store with bulk bins (and also selling drugs) and now I can convert multiple different units of measurement between metric and imperial in my head.

My kid would always have another logical argument as to why he shouldn’t need to do the thing.

Schoolwork was NEVER logical to him. Neither was cleaning up after himself.

As a young person, he had all the time and energy in the world to make his arguments.

        As parents, we did not.

Perhaps he’s got a point then.

As a young person, he had all the time and energy in the world to make his arguments. As parents, we did not.

That’s an excuse not an arguement. Perhaps cleaning and homework are simply illogical.

(I am making a very dry joke here.)

So true. I am one of the more lazy and chaos blind persons. I have a really hard time cleaning up.

We moved in a new house a year ago, and finally, since a week or two u have drive. I complete building projects and get pestered by chaos.

And everything just because my brain found out that is I clean up and finish open projects, we get the space for a long dreamed of PCB manufacture. On that note… Just kidding, I really you all about my ToI another time ;)
