Medialabs didn’t like the segment that John Oliver did on them and started taking down images that referenced it. Claiming TOS violations. Many users are posting a screen shot of the segment and telling Imgur to “fuck off”. There are also a few bluesky users tying to get John Oliver’s team to take notice and rip Medialabs a new one again.

When are businesses going to learn about the Streisand effect? The more you try to hide something on the internet, the more it surfaces.

Also note how much of this is censorship strictu sensu. It’s an entity with power to dictate what you can/can’t say on a platform, silencing criticism in that platform. (Or at least trying to. Eh.)

For people who want other image hosting services: catbox.moe is a good option IMO.

They have such an awful mobile website. Like, every time I go on there because I’m looking for a picture that is apparently there, the page is full of unintuitive interactions. Like I’ll try and scroll down and it will suddenly redirect me away from the page, or I’ll tap on something to select it and suddenly the it’s showing me “similar images”

It reeks of desperation to keep people on their site.

I used to use imgur daily, even after the god-awful update to their app and website which plastered ads everywhere. I never updated the app and constantly saw people complaining about the new app or the website. When they later made that old version impossible to use, I stopped going to the site. Not out of some protest or whatever but it was just so fucking awful to try to use.
