That was how the instructions said to open them a long time ago.
I bet there were multiple injuries and deaths from the violence of the doughsplosions. The lawsuit settlements must have been pretty expensive for Pillsbury to change the instructions to what they are now. Probably with gag orders and hush money, which is why you can’t find a record of them.

I had one years ago that blew just from peeling the paper back like half an inch. Surprised me so bad I dropped it, watched as it rolled into a clump of dog fur, and now it always feels like I’m disarming a bomb or something.
