His movies are forgettable. He’s like Jay Leno, popular beyond all reason for having done nothing meaningful.
Why drag Leno into this?
Because hes overrated, not funny and screwed Conan. He is undeserving of his success.
His early work is good. Bananas, Sleeper, Annie Hall. Manhattan gets a mention for Allen being so cringing self aware that he made a movie about dating someone inappropriately younger.
Like Leno he has a reputation based entirely from those few early years. But most comics never even get an early reputation.
Yeah although im not so sure how bananas and sleeper might hold up in the modern age. don’t feel like rewatching to see.
