TIL there is a law called Marchetti’s Constant. Humans only tolerate commutes of less than ~1 hour. Housing outside that limit will fail.

    uhhhh well that is objectively not true

    I rather enjoyed my 1 hour train ride to school in college. Listened to more music than I ever had before in my life

    maybe just most Italians reject long commutes?

      The title is a lie. The constant is an average, not a minimum. The point being that that average stays around 1 hour even if the transportation methods become better and faster. Meaning that people rather broaden their travel radius than shorten their travel time if travel means become better.

        i think train isn’t the same driving/walking…

        as you can read/chill/watch TV/ study/work…

        it’s still takes a chuck of the day, but it isn’t the same as driving.
