I feel like the people I interact with irl don’t even know how to boot from a USB. People here probably know how to do some form of coding or at least navigate a directory through the command line. Stg I would bet money on the average person not even being able to create a Lemmy account without assistance.

Because you’re capable of following a set of instructions and when there’s something you don’t fully understand you try to look it up knowing you have the world’s combined knowledge at your fingertips.

yeah fully agree. with that logic though there shouldn’t be any excuses for people not to be able to join Lemmy because its “too technical”. following instructions and taking the initiative of following / learning about your curiosities are two separate things.

Eh. I would wager they just don’t want to. Which is fine. But lots of people rather than saying they don’t want. Say they don’t know how. As an excuse.

yeah 100% agree. we have a saying in Switzerland (probably Germanic in general), “being dumb is one thing, staying dumb is another”. maybe not the perfect thing to draw upon but the syntax is the same 😂

+1 to what atomic said. You could probably learn to code in relatively the same way you set up your servers; with some time and instructions. As long as you understand some fundamentals, coding isn’t that scary at all. Some languages can be tough, though :)
