I feel like the people I interact with irl don’t even know how to boot from a USB. People here probably know how to do some form of coding or at least navigate a directory through the command line. Stg I would bet money on the average person not even being able to create a Lemmy account without assistance.
Anonymity and the general public do not mix. Barrier to entry is all we have left.
I think it being easier to sign up would be a net positive. Reddits pretty anonymous and that’s a huge platform.

I’m here for the api, I’d be using reddit if they didn’t change it way back when.
And if too many people start coming here the same will happen. Becomes quickly unaffordable.
