What gets me is that yeah that’s their excuse, but if someone treated, say, an orangutan or a baboon like this I’d think that was pretty fucked up too. We were so gross. We still are (dog fighting, circus elephants etc) but what we’re capable of without what is essentially moral peer pressure, is chilling to think about. Even today we fight tooth and nail against moral progress and treating everyone with respect.
