I don’t have my book on me but I remember it going more along the lines of there being two independent rival towns. After a battle her husband is killed and the rivals want to marry her. Because of her anger and grief Olga devises a plan to outsmart them through a series of deceptions, and eventually razes the rivals town to the ground.

IIRC she agreed to marry then kills drevlyans that came to Kyiv with proposal, multiple times.
