I don’t think Trump going away would solve any problems. The people who voted for him will still exist, and will still be easy to manipulate. Trump is not special, his success is a product of the right wing disinformation machine and the failure of previous governments to stave off wealth inequality.

No, you’re wrong. Cults of personality fall apart fast when the leader dies. There are exceptions, but there’s huge survivors bias in counting them. For every Scientology and Mormons, there’s a hundred little ones you’ve never heard of that formed around a guy and dispersed when something happened to the guy.

The MAGA true believers will be around for a long time, yes–there’s still a few Shakers around–but they won’t be a unified political force.

This is a fair argument, I just don’t think it’s a cult of personality. The far right is performing shockingly well all around the world. It’s not because of the personalities involved, it’s because for one reason or another the ideas are popular. People can tell the world is getting worse, and many are blaming cultural outsiders rather than capitalism and the rich.

There’s no real left to oppose them and they’re all riding American momentum. Now that Trump’s shitting the bed those far right parties are struggling again. Trump’s personality cult.is all that’s holding the Republicans together and not even all that well these days

I think it’s a little of both. There is absolutely a cult of personality going on; but millions of neonazis didn’t just appear out of thin air to support him. Taking Trump out of the equation won’t fix every problem, but it will fix the Trump problems, and the Trump problems are both frequent and disastrous.

Trump dying will be a massive boon to humanity; but we’ll still have a lot of work to do.

I think the “one reason or another” is racism resulting from this wave of capitalism fucking everyone and people cultishly needing a “lesser” to blame. And no I’m not justifying racism. But some people work that way. “I’m doing badly and it’s someone’s fault, but of course it’s not capitalism!”

I’m sure there is truth to this but no one before trump was able to help the cancer grow so quickly.
