Can anybody confirm whether the camera works in Waydroid in Ubuntu Touch on the Fairphone 4?

The camera certainly doesn’t work in Waydroid on my ARM laptop, and I’ve read that support hadn’t been added for v4l2 yet. But I’ve seen a YouTube video that seems to suggest otherwise on Ubuntu Touch (that I can’t find anymore of course…)

I really want to convert my FP4 to Linux, but not being able to activate my Android banking app in Waydroid with the QR code is a deal breaker for me.

Can unfortunately not confirm any functionality, but I had Ubuntu touch installed before, it is still running android underneath and even though it was working okayish, I still went back to LineageOS at the time and GrapheneOS now. Ubuntu touch is not a “true/full” Linux OS like the PinePhone OSs.

Ubuntu touch (…) is still running android underneath

I remember this from years ago, but forgot the details - you mean more so than just the Android kernel+blobs?

I think ypu are mixing things up. Ubuntu Touch is indeed halium based and thus uses Android kernel versions and device drivers, which makes it realatively easy to port but comes with the similar update issues as Android.

On top of that OS there is the Waydroid app that boots a LinageOS in a container and allows you to run Android apps.

Oh really? I wasn’t aware. That’s a bit of a letdown: I wanted to ditch Android altogether.

Then again, I suppose if the camera works, it must have something to do with running atop a working Android system.

I’ll look into all this. Thanks for the heads up!

If I remember correctly that is exactly why I ditched it. I was really disappointed because I bought a new smartphone specifically for it. Thankfully that phone also supported LineageOS.
