My coworkers have a daily competition to see who can smash the most of these on their lunch break. They get super competitive with it and it’s hilarious.

I like their dots and their weird little dance. That’s why I searched iNaturalist for them. And now they’re all going to die by my hand. I’m not a bug murderer by nature. I’m fully catch and release… until now.

I’m starting the murder spree tomorrow. I’ve never seen a nymph before, but now I know what they look like.

I’d also never noticed either of the 2 nymph stages before. Heck, I hadn’t seen too many of the adults.

A big nest must have popped because the little black nymphs were EVERYWHERE a little while ago, crawling all over the outside of my apartment building and the tree next to it, I even found a few INSIDE my apartment. Smash smash smash.

The second nymph phase is nice and easy to see with its bright red. Also smash.

It makes me sad how many I am seeing.

I’ve seen a few around. They’ve invaded the entire state so it’s futile to kill them individually but I still do.

He’s so pretty, it’s a shame he had to be introduced to a place he didn’t belong

Goodbye to all lamp flies in OP’s yard. Its not your fault you’re here but it’s important that you go!

Best of luck with the attempts at curbing their numbers!

Smashing is pretty humane, since you’re taking out their whole distributed nervous system simultaneously. With roaches I tend to smash with my foot and then smear them. The shearing action helps break apart nerve endings that might still be working if they were just compressed
