And considering news headlines in the US right now, where certain sections of science are being suppressed, while others are promoted mainly for profit.

The trial transcript has some great verbal jousting between Clarence Darrow and William Jennings Bryan. Bryan was a great orator, but Darrow was able to make him look foolish.

Only with the versions of Christianity that want to impose themselves on others. Any religion and any flavour of religion that can function harmoniously with people that are not its members in the context of secular multicultural democracy is absolutely fine. Otherwise we have a problem.

we know, but 40% of us want this

Not me, and none of my brethren are interested in listening to me explain why this is SERIOUSLY bad for EVERYONE

They’re just happy the people they dislike are suffering

      Not very Christlike

40% of eligible voters stay home and cry about our unfair election system in the U.S . While feeling smug about letting unchecked fascism take over as a consequence.

Thankfully, they saved Palestine by not voting for Kamala Harris!

I was specifically referring to the 40% of the U.S. protestant Christian population that is conservative evangelical.

But don’t let that stop your condescension by repeating me facts that I knew before reddit or lemmy even existed that don’t actually address my point.

          Classic lemmy

The Original Commenter (OC) of this post said this:

Christians, it’s gonna happen again with this conservative government

There could be two groups to talk about and respond to: Christians, and Conservatives. There isn’t complete overlap between the two.

            You said:

we know, but 40% of us want this

You didn’t specify whether you were referring to Christians or Conservatives, so someone corrected you.

Then, you go on to clarify after the fact:

I was specifically referring to the 40% of the U.S. protestant Christian population that is conservative evangelical

While calling out someone’s correction as condescension, and at the same time being condescending yourself:

But don’t let that stop your condescension by repeating me facts that I knew

Then, the fact that Speculator introduced is likely from the 2024 US General Election, but you said that this was knowable before reddit or Lemmy came into existence:

before reddit or lemmy even existed

Voter turnout has fluctuated from below 50% to about 2/3rds in 2020.

To know the outcome of the 2024 election before reddit and Lemmy came into existence, you’d have to be a clairvoyant because reddit was created in 2005 while Lemmy was created in 2019.

Very militant response imo which reminds me of reddit more than Lemmy tbh

To know the outcome of the 2024 election before reddit and Lemmy came into existence,

Ok so either you’re a noob at U.S. politics or a bot but you seem to be unaware of the U.S.'s historically terrible voter turnout that has been fluctuating between 40% to 60% since the 1950s at the VERY least

Considering that was an inference problem, and you completely miffed it based on misunderstandings of timeframes, I’m more than sure you’re a badly tuned LLM

you seem to be unaware of the U.S.'s historically terrible voter turnout

I just shared two sources that track voter turnout back to the turn of the century and I think 1975. Those sources back up my claim.

What evidence do you have to support your claim?

Besides, this is a straw man. You didn’t clarify what you meant originally, and after someone tried to do that for you assuming 1 of 2 possibilities in the discussion, you castigated them. This behavior quite clearly shows that you can’t handle criticism and must protect your ego. Why can’t we stick to facts instead of imaginations?

                you completely miffed it

And you are deflecting from your poor handling of this situation. You can’t handle that someone called you out for being an asshole to someone that was just trying to set the record straight, so you’re trying to undermine MY credibility by calling me a bot.

This is literally the most libshit behavior I have seen on Lemmy. Holy fucking god

The more you talk, the more ignorant you appear.

You don’t have the insight into actual Christian communities, you only have a little peephole discolored by irrational hatred of theists and built by people who have never actually been involved in any of them

On the other hand I have spent my entire life talking to basically every major denomination as a fellow believer, and they will tell me things they will never tell you or your other rancid ilk. And this is on top of actual credit hours in Divinities, philosophy, and history as it pertains to world religions.

The ‘god hats fags’ flag waving, spittle flinging caricatures you assume all Christians to be are a tiny minority of even the most right wing conservative Evangelicals (I will not call them Christians because they are not in any way Christ-like), but you and your kind like to pretend they are the default state of all followers of Jesus.

’ll let the immigrant family you just deported

I have been at nine protests against fascism, ICE, and No Kings this year, how many have you been to?

keep pretending you’re a good person

I have LITERALLY NEVER claimed to be a good person, in fact every single place I post makes it clear I’m an angry asshole with very defined opinions and no filter.

You have this distorted image in your head of what you think a Christian is and I can guaran-fucking-tee you that I fit almost zero of that, and I am by far not the only one.

              • I went to Bible camp my entire childhood, can count the numbers of Sundays missed on a single hand my first 18 years of life, was a born again Christian, and a chaplain’s assistant in the Army. If you want to measure bone fides.

If you claim to be “Christian” why wear a label that shows you’re part of the problem?

So you’re cool with gays? Neat. Understand evolution? Awesome. Accept that vaccines actually work? Good for you. Hell, you might even understand women are not walking incubators. You’ve met the bare fucking minimum for being considered literate.

I’m going to finish with a statement and a question. There is no heaven, when you die, you’re dead. What is your heaven?

You make a fucktonne of unwarranted assumptions so let me clear some of them up right now.

I don’t care that your parents made you go to church, that doesn’t make your arguments valid or objective. I have zero to say about you being born again, that’s between you and JC, but you sure as hell don’t sound like you have a personal relationship. It sounds a lot like your bitter at a lifetime of performative cosplay.

You’ve met the bare fucking minimum for being considered literate.

Ok well I’ve been arrested for protesting in favor of gay marriage, spent 12 years volunteering at a free, all-welcome and radically inclusive addiction recovery program, got teargassed twice at Occupy Wallstreet, and have voted in every election local and national since 1986, and that’s not even a quarter of what I do for human rights

There is no heaven, when you die, you’re dead.

You may be right, I never claimed otherwise. I certainly have no concrete objective proof that you will accept about an afterlife, nor do I even claim the supernatural exists. You can look at my entire post history and I challenge you to find a post where I make this claim.

On the other hand, I DO personally believe something beyond what we currently understand exists and it directly relates to consciousness, and a LOT of the implications of this align directly with what Jesus taught about the kind of life we should strive to live.

Does that mean existence after death? I have no idea and am more focusing on living a life more like JC as much as I am able. And as much as I have followed in his footsteps, it has made my life more fulfilling and peaceful and connected me to many good and kind people.

people who dont believe in evolution as part of thier identity, usually dont even make it past hs, or even CC, they often drop out very quickly once they have to answer quesitons in biology that contradicts with god.

I’ve seen lots of them graduate where I live. They typically argue with it and say “Scientists don’t know everything” and continue being ignorant throughout the rest of their time in school
