@JimsPhotos Saw som tree sparrows today and were reminded of your photo.
This is not super sharp but maybe good enough for a comparision. Beak is definitely lighter and it has a yellow base.@kolombiken taking photos of birds is wonderful, sharpness is not essential. I have to travel to see them, cos I have none anywhere near me. Always like to see them.
@JimsPhotos I like it sharp though. At least when it’s a photo were I’m trying to see the birds features. Maybe this is due to my own vision being blurry so if the photo is also blurry it gets double-blurred? 😅
Anyway I think the variety among treesparrows are really interesting!
@[email protected] Why is the beak so dark? Is that the local variety?
@kolombiken personally I have none locally, these were from a recent trip to Yorkshire. As far as I know, Tree Sparrows have either a black or brown beak. (Unlike house sparrows who’s beak colour can change with the seasons). It’s not something I have thought about until you raised the question. But looking through other images of Tree sparrows, most are very dark.
@[email protected] Interesting! Tree sparrows around where I live have a beak that’s more on the gray side. But this looks black to me.
And now I need to photograph one around here so I can do a proper comparison.
