The platforms suck. But you really have to have some sympathy for the scale of the issue.

A major solution would be to stop allowing anyone and everyone to upload content. To enforce identity checks, have onboarding fees, have content reviewed by a human causing delays in publishing, etc.

And this is only about slop, not violence, CSAM, radicalization, fake and misleading political information, etc etc.

Fuck the platforms, they are why society is where it is right now. But damn is it a gnarly problem.

Platform moderation is a monumental burden. One that the fediverse has yet to really reckon with, due to how small it is.
