      Without context, surely so. With context I think a moment to process is all that is required. I guess it would have been a good idea not to name two important places in the US the same thing.

        i think americans get used to it but yeah it’s kind of shit. to be fair washington state used to just be a bunch of weird religious nuts and natives when they were naming the capital city, and not much else. not really a great excuse but it’s where we’re at ig. maybe in the 19th century the continental distance between the two made it feel less like there’d be any reasonable chance to confuse them, too.
