I worked as a stripper from 81-83, Ask me anything
81-83 is pretty old for a stripper
Was two years in the industry enough to make it worthwhile with appealing to a rather niche audience?
That was my autistic brain’s first thought. But it wasn’t a joke…
I think there’s been a massive mix up here. I meant in years not age.
Oh, I got it
I was making a joke
I thought that too but then I saw the bit at the bottom and thought you weren’t.
Since “pour some sugar on me” was still a few years away, what was the most prevalent song? What was your song?
My song was ‘If you think I’m sexy’ by Rod Stewart. Funk and soul was pretty common as well as some disco. I remember hearing ‘Ring my bell’ by Anita Ward, ‘You sexy thing’ by Hot Chocolate, ‘Twist and Shout’ by The Beatles and ‘She’s a lady’ by Tom Jones a lot.
I’ve never really understood any kind of dancing (last time I tried was at my brother’s wedding around a decade ago), but it never occurred to me that a stripper would have a particular one. I figured they would just go with what came on.
Dave Barry, in one column, said that if a cop pulled someone over while they were listening to “Twist and Shout,” they should not only have to forgive the ticket but also dance along. I’ve never been to a strip club, but if I heard that song while at one I would probably just find it distracting thinking of that.
I’ve learned a lot from this thread!
I don’t think it was anyone’s song it was more just background noise. The Beatles were still kinda popular/relevant back then so that’s probably why they played it.
Sorry, are you saying The Beatles aren’t popular/relevant now? I refuse to accept this reminder of my age.
Even back then they were a throwback for boomers.
I’ve sometimes wondered what life looks like for people after they get out of the industry and get older. Did your past career affect your future jobs? Was it something you told romantic partners? Did you ever tell family members, at the time or later? Were you ever worried about people finding out about your career? Sometimes you hear about all these people doing online work like Only Fans or similar, and while some are making lots of money, many presumably aren’t, and it leaves me wondering if in the future the ones who didn’t make it will feel like it was worth the effort.
“Did your past career affect your future jobs?”
Not when I was young. When you could just hide such information by not telling anyone. I suppose now-a-days it would get in your way if you wanted to be a teacher or a nun.
“Was it something you told romantic partners?”
Yeah, none of them seem to mind.
“Did you ever tell family members, at the time or later?”
When I was a stripper I confessed to my sister when she asked me what my career was. She was understanding and my brother found out later. Neither of them seem to mind and now we both think it’s funny.
“Were you ever worried about people finding out about your career?”
Not really. It wouldn’t be ideal with impolite company but when it’s friends and mutuals then I’m fine with it.
What type of banter with the patrons generated the most tips?
Acting interested did the trick.
Maybe you can settle a debate I keep running into: was there any sex in the VIP room?
VIP rooms are for the fancy clubs. Not the dive bar one I worked in.
Not sure for op, but yes there generally is
Was it enjoyable, or did it become just going to work, or even something you hate that pays well?
It was fun. I Got to drink on the job and hang out with hot girls. How could you ask for more?
For me it was more of a personal thing. I had known about the place for a little before hand and became obsessed with the lovely dancers there. Thank god they didn’t have HR I would have been in so much trouble. One in particular I couldn’t get enough of. I still think about her all these years later. She was such a sweetheart.
We’re you a male or female stripper? I hadn’t really thought about that question!
Female
the ex-redditor in me immediately went to:
username checks out
As someone who has used Reddit in the past. How was that a Reddit thing?
Why did you stop?
Non of the other girls were interested in me. At first it was nice being just being around such nice girls but over time it became torture. Imagine being a starving dog and being surrounded by tasty sausages you can’t eat. There was that but also it was only supposed to be a temporary thing to begin with.
Do you keep up with the industry? If so, how have things changed, if at all? Do you think things are getting better for entertainers, escorts, and sex workers?
Not really. If there was any change in the industry I wouldn’t know about it.
are strippers good places to find access to cocaine ?
it is a thread topic on a reddit post right now.
sorry i had the wrong link up
I don’t know what it’s like now but back in the one I worked in back in the day, certainly not. I would have had it all.
If you had to do it again in your current state, would you make a killing in OF as the only GILF on the platform?
No. I’m too old for all that stuff. Also there’s a big difference between stripping and doing OF. Stripping can be temporary while OF is forever and also there’s a lot more competition on OF and the things you do on OF are way more different.
Did you buy a house with the money you got during those years?
Just an apartment. Nothing fancy.
