      thanks to the comment, i now know it’s van HHOHH or however it should be phonetically spelled. and no, i had never heard it said by a native prior to that

      now i’ll be that annoying ackckshuallyyy dweeb that corrects people

        I recently watched the documentary Van Gogh by Vincent, which narrates his development as an artist by using his own self-portraits. Hearing the way the speakers pronounce his name is now cemented in my mind. Honestly it still feels weird, but I’ll get used to it.

          if you enjoy art documentaries, check out tim’s vermeer, about a random rich dude who hypothesized vermeer’s method of painting using mirrors, then painted a near perfect duplicate of a vermeer using the method, having never been a painter before

        If you don’t watch Doctor Who, and even if you do, Vincent and the Doctor is the best season 5 episode (no spoilers for the larger series arcs).

        And that’s when I started questioning how I pronounce Van Gogh (I’m American, so I say Go with the long ō).
