The policy says that ICE field offices are not subject to a federal law that allows members of Congress to make unannounced oversight visits to immigration facilities that “detain or otherwise house aliens.”

In short, ICE policy is to illegally use the threat of shooting to keep elected Democrats from being able to make inspections they’re legally allowed to make

Boot them the fuck out of my state, and your state, and every state where the Democrats still have any measure of power

And, incidentally, was never granted authority for this kinda crap. But the legislature has been neutralized, at least in terms of who’s in charge.

Simply put: most Democrats in congress are giant pussies.

If we lived in a more sane world, our Democratic representatives in Congress would be breaking down the doors.

That’s easy to say when you aren’t the one facing a group with body armor and guns.

Politicians do not train as SWAT teams

Usually I agree when it’s regular citizens critiquing other regular citizens for not starting an armed rebellion. I find that line of thinking disingenuous.

But we should have higher expectations of our elected officials. Congressmen have power and they are expected to use it to benefit their constituents.

I’ve never heard “easy for you to say” more in my life than I have from Americans in the past six months.

Sucks having everyone suggest that at some point you have to live up to your stated values.

Nobody in Washington deserves to be defended, not do any of them deserve our respect.

None of them are on our side anyway.

Once again, people can say “this is illegal” all they want.

But nobody seems to be willing or able to actually do anything about it. Chuck Schumer can call it a “silly piece of paper” all he wants, but right now he and his colleagues are being held off by that silly piece of paper.

Is anyone going to do anything about it? No. Is anyone going to force their way into these facilities? No. Is anyone in ICE going to face consequences for spinning this policy out of whole cloth? No. Which means, for all intents and purposes, what they’re doing is de-facto legal.

Your post is right on everything, but I’ll note that what it means is we live in a de-facto lawless state.

Yet again it’s Congress that has to act, Congress that is giving up their authority without a fight. This policy does not affect pretty much any of us. If only there were Congress people demanding transparency, accountability, human rights, it would affect them. They’re not only the ones affected, they’re the ones who can say “LoL, no”

US Congress people are among the most powerful elected officials in the effing world, or they were. I don’t know why they prefer to settle for just going along, while bickering endlessly while favoring their corporate masters. wtf, stand up like you always claim. And no, standing up against a high school athlete is not a substitute for standing up for your constituents, your society, your own goddam list for power which somehow doesn’t matter anymore
