Amazing job by the organizers of this! Some good, connected news is that the largest protest was Earth Day in 1970, and that effected positive change in the U.S., including the creation of the Clean Water Act and Clean Air Act. It would be hard to argue that those two pieces of legislation weren’t a good thing for most Americans. That’s good company to be in. When people show up, positive change can result. When more people show up, the more likely for positive change.

It is noteworthy that I haven’t seen a single major news/media outlet call out the statistical significance of Saturday’s protests. Perhaps they’re waiting for more official numbers from the Crowd Counting Consortium? Doubt it. C’mon journalists!!!

*the referenced article suggests the No Kings protest could be the largest single day protest in U.S. history, but this doesn’t account for Earth Day in 1970.
