Our golden retriever safely delivered her first litter of 5 puppies today, and she looks exhausted for it. Slightly stressful moment when she was scared of the first one, but after a little encouragement she attached and bonded with it and is now doing an excellent job of nursing them.

Yeah, that’s pretty much what happened. She was still labouring but actively jumped out of the crate trying to get away from this thing chasing her around

Heifers do the same thing. What the hell just fell out of me? RUN. Come back and sniff at it. RUN. Well, maybe it’s not going to kill me. Lick. Ok, this tastes like me. I guess maybe it’s fine. Naw, I want her calf instead. RUN after other calf. Get head butted. Go back to own calf. No, this is fine. Why is it sucking on my teat? Kick. It’s still doing it. Kick.

    Mum looks really tired.

    She needs a nap.

Also, when she’s less tired, let her know she’s a good girl for me? And give some scritches or whatever,

She’s had all day to recover now and is happily snoozing with her pups all cuddled up underneath her.

She got constantly told how good she was and how well she was doing throughout everything, with plenty of fuss to keep her calm, and plenty more fuss when she’s doing such a good job caring for them.
