Since arriving in Mali in 2021, Russian Wagner mercenaries have abducted and detained hundreds of civilians in former UN bases and military camps shared with the Malian army. Our investigation, as part of the Viktoriia project, reveals secret prisons where abuse and torture are carried out with total impunity.

Unserious wannabe novelist tone, complete lack of verifiable sources, cartoonish portrayal of Russians, heroization of Ukrainian Nazis who have openly bragged about supporting terrorist groups in the Sahel…yup, checks all the boxes of three letter agency propaganda. Perfect for advancing two of their favorite agendas at the same time: demonization of Russia and discrediting of AES states’ governments. These are the same kinds of outlets who write hit pieces on Ibrahim Traoré while glazing literal Nazi battalions in Ukraine.

Once you check their funding sources it becomes immediately clear what kind of outlet this is: https://forbiddenstories.org/about-us/funding/

Funded, among other highly dubious organizations, by the NED (literal CIA front) and Open Society Foundations (color revolution NGO).

In the future please read a piece like this critically and check its sources and most importantly its sources of funding before you post it. Or post it in a more appropriate com like SRS. Do better next time.

Don’t forget about projection checkbox since all those was exactly what US agencies were and still are doing.

I mean, Wagner is a private military founded by a Nazi, it includes openly neonazi outfits like Rusich, are we surprised they would commit crimes on the African population?

Also I think dismissing everything coming from mainstream Western media as a hoax is counterproductive. Clearly they have an axe to grind but that doesn’t mean those crimes didn’t happen.

The article ends with a statement that once Wagner left and got replaced by Africa Corps which unlike Wagner is directly overseen by the Russian Ministry of Defense, crimes ended (they call it a “lull in atrocities”, the language is definitely charged but we should be able to look past that)

This is a good take. The best response here is “I need to see a credible source before I believe this,” not “this is a bad source so there is absolutely no way this can be true.”

Propaganda isn’t necessarily false just because it is being curated and published with the intent to support a narrative. The best propaganda (really the only good propaganda) is true.

The best propaganda (really the only good propaganda) is true.

You can see a lot of this in western propaganda, but a lot of it is just the propaganda accusing the other side of what the west is actually doing.

So yeah, it could be that the story is true. It could also be that it’s just the west accusing others of what they are/were doing like it happens a lot. Or it could even be both cases, but this isn’t evidnce of anything (although I would be very surprised if the projection hypothesis isn’t true).

Case in point. A list of some of the most notorious global purveyors of disinformation and propaganda. And one outright Nazi outlet.

Again, what does that have to do with the actual article that you are commenting on?

the article is a barely disguised propaganda piece, as outlined in this comment

your lack of media literacy lowers the credibility of any article you post, especially given your completely inadequate defense of it

especially given your completely inadequate defense of it

Who said that I should defend the article?

your lack of media literacy lowers the credibility of any article you post,

What does my “lack of media literacy” has to do with anything “credibility”.

I did not write the article.

All of that is showing me your lack of logic.
