Okay, yes, it checks a TON of genocide boxes, and every action Russia has made this whole time supports genocide, and they literally are calling for it at the state level, but can you really say for sure that it’s genocide?

It’s not genocide unless they systematically stuff Polish Jews into railroad cars and keep them in labor camps until they kill them all in gas chambers disguised as showers but ONLY if they use right kind of gas and ONLY IF there’s at least 5 million of them and ONLY IF the Soviet Union grinds them down so American can swoop in and claim capitalism won and fascism can secretly continue the way the confederacy also got off the hook. Then it’s genocide.

“Destroying a nation” does not inherently mean “genocide”.
That was the historic norm. If you lost a war, you ended up under the flag of the conquering country and were expected to adopt at least some aspects of their culture. But in general, much of the civilian population survived. A thousand states vanished from Europe in the last millenium, but only a handful of times did it result in their entire populations being slaughtered/displaced.
I suspect much of the time, it was more valuable to have more subjects than a lot of empty land with nobody to work it. Not like Russia has that problem already…

The ethnic cleansing of, by Russia’s count, nearly a million Ukrainian children from the occupied territories?
The erasure of Ukrainian culture in the occupied territories?
The intentional mass slaughter of Ukrainian civilians and prisoners?
The repeated statements from high-ranking officials in the Russian government that the goal is the destruction of the Ukrainian nation?
