President Donald Trump says he's directing his government to reopen and expand Alcatraz, the notorious former prison on a California island that's been closed for more than 60 years.
Alcatraz is owned by the National Parks Service though, so I imagine it more directly hurts the federal government - hurting California is more of a secondary nature.
I cant imagine retrofitting such an ancient structure for modern prison standards will be cheap…
Like… you’d be better off building a new structure…
Not to mention the loss of revenue from tourism.
