Making just another controller with similar features to existing ones people are familiar will not fly. They need to make it as good as dualsense, ad some new feature that is easy to use, and make it cheap. Native gyro for pc is what i would like to see, and maybe pressure sensitive buttons.

And which titles will support that?

I really dig what they did with the touchpads on the Steam Deck, and something like that, complete with the fully comprehensive mapping and input scheme system on the Steam Deck, would probably get me to buy one even though I am very happy with my XBox Elite 2 controller.

Steam Input means every title supports that. I’ve been using gyro with my Steam Controller on PC for years now.

I was really referring to pressure-sensitive buttons.

The gyro feature also just sounds awful to me. I ain’t sitting perfectly level and still for that shit.

Edit: well fuck me for clarifying, apparently

Wasn’t me who downvoted. I’m pretty sure gyro zeros when it’s not active so I had mine set to only activate on trackpad touch which negated the issue you’re concerned about.

You can hone in on its sensitivity too by the way. I know find it hard when I pay a console game without gyro. Ever since splatoon I’ve not looked back. I don’t understand why people are so averse to trying it. In my eyes it’s better than using a mouse, because then you still have all of the other benefits of a controller like analog movement etc.

I have a steamdeck and just could not get used to gyro, i hatdd jt so much. But the steamdeck is heavy and i usually have it resting on a pillow or something so i dont have to support the full weight. Also the screen moving whenever you move gyro bothered me a lot, i dont want to have to be moving my neck and arms around to play a game. I could see it being a lot better with just a controller and a screen in fixed position though, but i like to play games in handheld mode and i think itd be frustrating switching back and forth.

Yeah I’ve never had a great time with it when it involves moving the screen you’re using ie the switch, vita and wii u. But still find the precision much better than stick alone.

You’ve got to remember that the gyro is just for precision movements, not the wide spread sweeps (outside of occasional reactionary ones). The stick should still be the primary way to move the camera. Like, stick to position to the enemy, then gyro to precisely aim for the head, kind of deal.

And just like mouse and stick sensitivity, everyone will have their preferred sensitivity for gyro to, which can take a little bit of experimenting to begin with when trying it out properly for the first time.

Don’t strike it out completely yet. You might just want it to be at a lower sensitivity and still prioritise the stick and just use the gyro for those small readjustments.

Yeah idk, i tried it wirh spec ops and hated it, but the aiming in that game felt weird no matter what, i disliked it with the touchpads too, and ended up just using the joystick which i barely ever do for anything that involves aiming. Ive heard Doom 2016 is a good one to try it out on so maybe ill try that, i just do like to have the steamdeck resting and pretty firmly planted on something when im playing to rest my arms.
