Perhaps it wasn’t the best example, but the point I’m trying to get across is that almost any game you’ve played recently is likely profiting a bigot in some way or another.
Shareholders will always exist. Funding sources. Executives. Just because they didn’t write the code doesn’t mean they weren’t involved with the development. And they certainly make money off the success.
Sure, but that way of thinking seems to treat trying to avoid supporting bigots as some sort of “purity cult” game, and it’s not. Just because there’s no ethical consumption under capitalism, that doesn’t excuse people to make highly unethical purchases.
Of course you can’t perfectly avoid any bigoted shitheads from having worked on something you buy, but you wouldn’t buy a game where the majority of the royalties go to David Duke, would you?
Some people are just doing the best they can to not support bigoted assholes, and when it comes to gaming, a market that exists purely for entertainment, and one that has millions of other options, that’s rather easy and practical to do.
I think the truth of the matter is just that a lot of people don’t care. And if they know that JKR does what she does and contribute to her rampage, it entirely does make them antagonists to the cause of good.
And then there’s the matter of willful ignorance. That’s something I can never forgive but is all too common.
