More than half of the world’s oceans have changed colors in the past 20 years, becoming more green than blue. The culprit? Climate change. In a study, published Wednesday in Nature, decades worth of research showed 56 percent of the world’s oceans experienced color change between 2002 to 2022.
The article seems to imply that the human eye is not sensible enough to pereceive the shift, and that it is veing detected by special cameras on satellites.
This is alarming, but saying something is changing “color”, sort of imply to the human eye, usually.
Usually, yes, but in science especially not always. And why are you saying that this color changes being detected by instruments as opposed to by human eye is alarming?
If plankton colonies are getting bigger that should correlate to a higher rate of CO2 absorption by the ocean. One of the primary ways the ocean absorbs CO2 is through the growth and subsequent death of plankton before settling on the ocean floor.
