I’m not really a webdev, more backend or full stack at this point. I do know about C & C++ strong presence in firmware, OS, HPC, video gaming, and elsewhere.
But by the numbers there’s a lot more webdevs than any other kind out there, and that doesn’t even touch on NodeJS leaking into backend and elsewhere.
I really wonder about their methodology. JavaScript/Typescript is nearly ubiquitous in webdev, and has been making strides in the backend space for almost a decade now. No matter how you feel about it (yeah it’s terrible, I’ve been press-ganged into it this year) it’s a real force in the marketplace.
It’s super surprising to me it’s still behind C and C++.
It is unfortunately simple. The feelings of religion and sympathy in the wake of WW2 completely aside, strategically they offer the US a strong military ally in the Middle East, including playing host to several military bases. That’s a very rare thing in that region.
As far as I’m concerned, if they actually refuse to certify the election and try to tip the US into an authorization regime, the gloves come off. No more worrying about how things look, how the Republicans will feel, how they will respond when it’s their turn. They don’t get another fucking turn after that.
I guess I see enough parallels to call it “close enough”, but I guess that’s a matter of perspective.

The cost was spread over several years. And at 25€ a ticket this doesn’t just serve the elite. The building is also a cultural landmark, so preserving it is of social interest, and the money spent went straight back into the local economy, where it was swiftly taxed again.
These arguments are lazy, find better ones.
When the tickets are only €25 it’s not just for the rich. The opera house is a cultural landmark, preserving it serves the public. And it was 1.5B spread over several years, not all at once.
Honestly, the ‘money on art bad’ argument is not a good line here.

So what you’re saying is, such renovations obviously could only take place with government tax dollars, since as a private enterprise there’s no way they could make it work? And this relatively small amount of spending in the grand scheme of the tax system helps keep the local arts flourishing?

Edit: forgot to add, it also supports the construction workers, restoration workers, the places of business where materials were sourced, pumps money into the local economy, and preserves the buildings as cultural landmarks.

I’m not saying you don’t have a point, but the people are not their countries, their ancestors choices, or their governments, and vice versa. I fundamentally reject the premise of your argument.

I characterized the Allies actions as a defensive response. And they provably were not violently expanding during WW2. I didn’t say a word about their actions and behaviors prior to WW2.
The fuck do you suggest “good people” do facing invasion? Lay down and let the Axis steal, rape, murder, and genocide their way through Europe?
Good people fight back against bad people. Saying or doing anything less is to be complicit in their actions.
The Axis existed as a coalition of countries who wanted to expand their lands at the cost of their neighbor’s lives.
The Allies existed purely as a defensive response to the Axis.
A person with a gun fighting to defend their families is not “just as evil” as a person with a gun invading the home of others. Before we even get into camps, unethical medical research, and genocide, you really can’t “both sides” this one.
