  • Apple popularised two things that bug the shit out of me in addition to everything you said. “on iPhone” “on iPad” just sounds utterly wrong. It needs to be “on the iPhone” “on the iPad”. Now everyone is doing it.

The other is " breathlessly we’re excited to announce/we’re excited to share with you/we’re excited!!!big fucking cheesy grin". The whole point of having that whole “excited” or whichever adjective you want at that point of the sentence is to prep you and let you know what you’re supposed to feel. If it’s that good surely you shouldn’t have to tell me what I need to feel.

  • Reddit and Lemmy have a few different nuances that Sync doesn’t properly address. A good example is blocking communities or individuals right from the post menu. Syncs development has been sporadic or at least was when I paid attention. In addition Connect has a few additional features like “hide all above” which is a nice feature to have once you get used to it.

  • I never changed my pads in 65k miles so that’s not true sorry.

They are on average slightly heavier but we’re talking 100-200kg. That’s nothing, 10-15%, definitely not “substantially”. Less if you add fuel to the ICE.

There’s not any extra pollution. There’s an investment cost and then tyre wear. Which you get from an ICE. Along with, you know, all the pollution from the combustion engine. Which is at most 24% efficient (more likely middle teens) and only continues to pollute rather than electric vehicles which don’t.

Electric cars may not be the ultimate solution but they’re a damn sight better than the status quo so let’s stop this kind on hysterical posting eh?

  • They supply energy as they claim. Oil, diesel and petrol to name a few. They all have uses outside of moving cars, not sure if you know that.

If we’re sticking to what OP said then You’re still wrong about huge batteries as they only need to be sized for the role of the vehicle and very very very few need to do 300 miles in one go but I won’t bother continuing because I don’t think you’re open to discuss but more of a bad faith actor.

  • Smaller batteries for load shaving. Smaller batteries for home and businesses to self store. Hydro. Gravity. Thermal.

And that’s just looking at the most basic swap out. The whole point of the energy transition is to also make everything better. Continent wide energy grids need to happen ie. Wind in Norway, solar in Morocco and a grid between etc. local generation by solar or wind also has a huge part to play. Geothermal is getting much better with lower temperature or harder to reach heat sources too, see Eden Project in Cornwall.

I don’t want to come too aggressively at you here but I see this kind of “attitude” a lot in these conversations and it’s always struck me as very insincere.

If you haven’t already have a watch of the Everything Electric videos on YouTube for good views on how wide this whole thing is going to have to be.
