Good luck getting this past the Labour government. They are firmly rooted to remaining (excuse the pun) outside the EU. This is even before you attempt to get it past Conservative opposition or fringe party Reform nutters.
If the party in power isn’t going to champion this then it’s an instant no go.
Labour are dedicated to the democratic vote, which is arguably the “right” thing to do, but not necessarily the best thing to do.
TBH I hope the EU rejects them if they do apply.
Why? It’s a win/win for all the same reasons the UK should have never left.
Why? Half the country voted to remain. It’s not our fault the other half are fucking morons. Make us adopt you euro, I don’t give a fuck
The EU definitely wouldn’t let us back in, it was hard enough for us to get in the first time.
As a British citizen, I hope that they are accepted, without any of the special concessions Thatcher handbagged out of Delors, and with the proviso that they adopt the Euro and enter the Schengen zone.
I believe joining the EU would boost the economy, increase global influence, improve collaboration and provide stability & freedom.
