This was legitimately bad for the USSR and had he been allowed to resign when he wanted he would have been able to mentor the next in charge. Probably prevent everything that Khrushchev fucked up, which in turn my have even prevent the eventual end of the USSR. He probably would have lived longer to due to less overall stress.

They should’ve because Khrushchev wouldn’t be able to do his secret speech and de-Stalinization. I think it’s bad policy to let leaders stay in office until their deaths.
