”Share a Disney quote that sums up how you’re feeling right now!”

That’s what Disney posted on Threads the other day, and people immediately replied with lines from Star Wars, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, and even Mary Poppins. The throughline between all the quotes: they were pretty pointedly anti-fascist and clearly aimed at the current administration

Disney are also really shitty at removing any context in their movies. An interesting scene at the beginning of the movie Encanto a flashback references an unknown conflict in Colombia resulting in the death of the grandmother’s husband. What conflict Disney? Who were the bad guys Disney? Further research by an interested viewer will reveal that it was a civil war involving a right wing of rebels backed by the US, rose up against a leftist government.

Encanto isn’t about the conflict, though.

It would seriously break the flow of the story if they took time to explain the geopolitics of the area.

The original comment reads more like: they could’ve used an abstract conflict without specifics allowing to identify it

I would add: maybe that was intentional, also maybe they thought that the US were on the side of good in that case

right wing propaganda in shows and movies has always been seen favorably and useful for the govt, thats why they allow military to protrayed a certain way.
