ICE thugs in Minneapolis have followed their murder of Renee Nicole Good and assaults on peaceful protesters with the arrest of at least five Indigenous American men and the reported questioning of hundreds of others.

The arrests came after Trump lackey DHS boss Kristi Noem transferred 2,000 more ICE agents to Minneapolis in response to outrage in the city and across the nation at the close-range shooting of Good and the Trump regime’s subsequent smears of her.

The arrests happened at an Indigenous American housing community only a few blocks away from the murder site. Indigenous People’s Movement director Little Crow Belcourt, a White Earth Ojibwe, said the arrests and harassment were driven by racism:

I think some of them [ICE] don’t even know what they’re doing or where they’re at. They’re just pulling people over at random, if you’re Brown. Some of our Native people get mistaken for our relatives south of the border.

ICE’s thugs tried to enter the Little Earth Housing Project, but the community’s managers turned them away. Three days later, ICE tried to detain a community member who was sitting in her car outside a First Nation-run coffee shop, but were thwarted by the shop workers.

The same day, ICE then arrested four Oglala Sioux men under a nearby bridge; at least one was later freed. A Red Lake Nation man was then arrested in the north of the city as he drove to visit a relative. Minnesota’s lieutenant-governor Peggy Flanagan, herself White Earth Ojibwe, called the assaults “obvious racial profiling”:

Native people have been here since time immemorial – there’s no one that has been a citizen of this country longer than us. The obvious racial profiling happening to our community is disgraceful. My heart breaks to hear about what’s happening and it pisses me off.

ICE is doing nothing but making our communities less safe. They need to get out of Minnesota and leave us alone. To Indian Country – take care of each other, protect each other, and continue to have each other’s backs. I’m with you. This won’t be the last you hear from me on this.

Tribal lawyers say they know the location of the four men, have proof of their citizenship and are working to secure their release.

Thugs

In just the last year ICE thugs have been responsible for countless assaults, dozens of murders and deaths in custody, tens of thousands of wrongful deportations – and have been caught out accusing members of the public of ramming their vehicles when video evidence proved they had done the ramming, unprovoked. In one case, ICE agents followed a ramming by shooting the female driver five times. Miraculously, she survived. US citizens have been arrested and even deported, including a child with cancer.
