I’m not sure this is inevitable but again and again across history you see organic movements for liberation appear and then unscrupulous people maneuver themselves to their head, take control of them, and then steer them to the right in order to achieve their own power and ends.

Thinking about how our movements can be more resilient against this process is worthwhile.

I remember the green party (US) came to do a talk at my college and someone asked what would stop them from becoming just as corrupt as the other parties and they hand waved it going “well it wouldn’t be the green party anymore if that happened.” Maybe they did/do have good safeguards but the question seems like it should be take seriously (re list the actual measures/mechanisms you have in place).

Generally power grabs from within movements are prompted by their being destabilized through external assault.

Because they’re not meaningless to us who are in these groups? As an anarchist, I have a strong investment in seeing the left not associated with genocide denial and authoritarianism.

        >communist leaders use anarchists as cannon fodder to get into power

        >communists then execute surviving anarchists as a threat to their authoritarian states

        >tankies wonder why anarchists hate them

        Many such cases

Plus they’re pretty numerous on Lemmy specifically. And if you participate in political organizing or activism at all you will run into many of them. They’re small in number but very loud.

Oh, great. Now separate the Nazis from the rightwing anarchists too. That’s how useful those directions are.
