Tbh that’s better than I expected. 2% with basically no organization (and what we do have started from zero not long ago) in the heart of the imperial core while - relatively speaking - times have been good for decades now. Learning about the humble beginnings of the Bolsheviks, the CPC, the dozens of communists who started the Cuban revolution… it encourages me to know you can start with a small base and grow massively when the conditions allow.

Wonder if it might actually be higher. If a government survey asks if I’m a communist there’s no way I’m answering truthfully.

I’d go so far as to say there’s 10% of people who are really anticapitalist leaning between the Socialists, Communists, and Anarchists. Its an exciting time for sure! It only takes a small population of dedicated operatives to foment revolution.

One thing I will say is most Americans have no idea what these words actually mean in any substantive way (I was guilty of this until just some handful of years ago like I’m sure many others were) so I’d be interested to understand who was polled more.

True but that’s what their point is. It doesn’t take a majority of the population to sway public opinion is what I’m saying. They can agitate and radicalize people as a very small and dedicated contingent.

That’s what I was thinking. I wonder how the numbers would change if people sat thru a class where each term was defined then retook the survey.

If only 5% voted PSL we could show everyone how corrupt & undemocratic the country is as the two establishment parties move the goalposts and refuse to give the PSL the public election funding they deserve!

Replace “PSL” with any 3rd-party of your choosing for equal effect

I seriously doubt the results of this poll. It’s not conceivable at all that in the US that the numbers of people who self-identify as “communist” and “anarchist” are anywhere near the same.

If I were to pull a number out of my ass I would assume a difference of around an order of magnitude.

Why doubt the results when you can doubt the methodology?

I’m guessing they’re referencing this poll

The POLITICO Poll was conducted by Public First from Dec. 5 to Dec. 9, surveying 10,510 adults online, with at least 2,000 respondents each from the U.S., Canada, the U.K., France and Germany. Results were weighted to be representative of each country in terms of age, gender and geography. The overall margin of sampling error is ±2 percentage points for each country. Smaller subgroups have higher margins of error.
