Happy new year ya 'orrible lot!

Another year and what a year 2026 has been already, amirite?

Tech

First let’s talk about new tech stuff for this instance

Upgrades

So let’s start things simple, the Divisions by zero instance has now been upgraded to 0.19.15, the latest current lemmy version. All the other frontends we offer have also been brought up to date to their latest versions as well.

Threativore flotilla integration

Threativore has been updated so that it correctly counts votes from flotilla users as local votes. However it’s a bit tricky to allow it to determine if a user is a supporter or not, as it doesn’t have access to stuff like user emails. For now, I decided the simplest option was to create an account aliasing setup. This means that if you’re supporting the flotilla through the Ko-Fi or Liberapay buttons of /0, but your primary account is on anarchist.nexus (or any other instance really), you can create an account on lemmy.dbzer0.com (if you don’t have one already) and then PM the threativore bot with this command from that account.

threativore add alias: https://<instance.domain>/u/<username>

Once you do that, all your votes on governance threads will be automatically linked to your /0 account, which also ensures there’s no vote duplication by accident.

2025 Notable Events

Let’s also take a look back at what happened in 2025

The Fediverse Anarchist Flotilla is launched

Continuing our experiments in how far we can push radical democracy on the internet, we expanded our fediverse fleet into the flotilla, with the addition of anarchist.nexus. And just this month, we’re already considering onboarding the first 3rd party instance into the fleet. Things are looking bright!

Haphash protection

Last month, we finally implemented Proof-of-Work protection to try and limit the AI-scraping scourge on these waves. The results one month in are very positives, with very little slowdowns reported anymore and much less headaches for your local sysadmins.

Staff

As the stress of being a fediverse admin degrades our brains, so we need fresh victims blood to help us run the ship. So we’ve added some more flotilla admins who have been taking to these waters quite nicely. At the same time some of our other admins have stepped back or are focusing more on the smaller anarchist.nexus which is also perfectly fine and exactly what the flotilla is meant to support.

Instance

/0 is officially the 4th largest instance by created accounts and 6th largest by MAU. Pretty neat for our little weird corner of the internet, no?

Membership

And now of course, the moment you’ve all been waiting for

Funding

As always, m@tes continue to be amazing, more than fully funding our operations for the past year with tons to spare. Anyway, this year I decided to switch the goal to yearly (since I keep procrastinating saying anything about it anyway)

Please continue being awesome and help ensure we can stay online for years to come!

Ko-Fi Liberapay
Ko-fi Liberapay

Finally I want to remind everyone that this is all only possible due to all y’all consistently interacting and growing our communities. Keep at it and we’ll keep providing the space to do so!

Cannot speak for the people running the show, but I thought it was tongue and cheek “genAI is the ultimate form of piracy”. I cannot say for certain how true it is. Biggest reason I’m not a fan of this specific instance, despite liking their piracy megathread.

        • Because using AI is absolutely not good for the environment? It is increasing climate change. We are at 1.5 C already, we are absolutely fucked. For example, see this: https://zacklabe.com/archive-2025/. And remember that the arctic is/has a positive feedback mechanism. Once the tipping point is hit, it is practically impossible to stop it. This should be enough reason to avoid using AI as much as possible.
        • AI increases inequality. AI is here to solve one thing: Wages. The AI bros want to increase income inequality, and all others forms of inequality, really, though they basically all derive from the buying power. By using AI, you are making it a point that you have no issues with that.

And also, look what the AI field is doing to the RAM/SSD shortage.

I had no idea that this instance was pro AI. What the fuck guys? I would never have thought that anarchists would be using AI. AI worsens the sense of community. It creates and feeds oppressive hierarchies.

I’m using a local model. I don’t burn any more than playing a video game.

That’s a capitalist problem, and I’m all for destroying capitalism.

And also, look what the AI field is doing to the RAM/SSD shortage.

That’s a corporate problem. We’re only using local LLMs which run on our own GPUs.

I had no idea that this instance was pro AI.

We’re not blanket “pro-AI”. We’re just not against using the GenAI as tech, but we’re against corporate GenAI.

Hell yeah! I’m curious if anyone else who voted Chomsky also changed their minds like me after the news with him a few months ago
