I wonder if the occupation will be as successful as Afghanistan or Iraq. 🍿
My bet is that there isn’t going to be an occupation or even a major invasion. The troops aren’t there for that; people forget there was a massive mobilization for Iraq, which would be equivalent to Venezuela.
What will likely happen is that the battle plan is to continue down the chain of command until a coup is able to take place. A caretaker government gets put into place, the current government loses massively, then the USA sends back Maduro to stand trial. Meanwhile, the USA releases all sanctions and creates a bailout package dependent on the USA gaining control of Venezuelan oil.
Donald Trump has vowed that the US is “going to run” Venezuela until there is an orderly transition of power but provided few details after ousting the country’s leader, Nicolás Maduro, in an audacious military attack.
There is ambiguity in “run” - it could be direct with US administrators, or it could be indirect with orders coming from the Oval Office, but it does seem like colonialism is afoot.

Yeah. If Donald Trump wants to “run things” he needs 20k marines in the country, like, right now. I haven’t seen any indications of that so far.
Or they just need a friendly government. From what I hear, the opposition is pretty pro-US, so that may be easy.
They still need the marines (or some other sizable force) if they want that friendly oppo government to take control.
Or they could have already paid out the current gov to hand over maduro, and let them get the oil back to private companies, in exchange for massive wealth produced by said companies
How naive to think this will be the end of it
Trump flexing on Putin like “and we didn’t need all 3 days”.
They did though, they tried on Christmas Eve and Newyears eve before succeeding.
Not again please for the love of God
