I really love all the lettering. That store sign is amazing!
delicatessen (plural delicatessens)
A shop that sells cooked or prepared foods ready for serving.Maybe it is regional or I’m oblivious, but I have never heard that term before.
Deli?
Yeah, but have you ever seen or heard someone use “delicatessen?”
A lot of old (or old style, also sometimes Jewish) delis still use the full word, especially in the eastern U.S.
As an example, Katz’s Delicatessen in New York is one of the most famous.
Here’s a sign for one in Philadelphia, and here’s one in Baltimore.
Outside of that, no. I’m not even sure I saw the full word anywhere else unless they were referring to old east coast delis!
Yes, as it is a word in my native language, Dutch. It means delicacies if I translated it correctly.
Yes
All the time. Most of of the delis have it in the name.
It was written above the deli counter at my grocery store.

👆 a truly wonderful film
I had to look it up to learn that it’s what the deli in deli meat is short for
I have seen this photo in the past, and it showed the store front how it looked at the then current time. It definitely looked different, but was still there as something. I wish I remembered more details.
Also, given the place and the presumed proprietor, this makes me think of the movie Harlem Nights, which is great! Older now, featuring a number of Black actors who aren’t around now. Three generations of comedians!
