Spider ant, spider ant, does whatever a spider ant does
Why so tiny sneaky boi?
Globular indeed. Not very springy and I don’t see any tails though…
Globular springtails have a unique tail-like appendage under their belly called a furca, which they use to jump and escape from predators. This structure allows them to perform impressive jumps, often flipping through the air as they do so.
Despite the actual music they played when it showed the lil dude spinning out of orbit, I heard the DuckTales Moon Theme in my mind 😅
Awesome video, thanks for the link
The fastest spinning animal: 22,000rpm!!!
Unexpectedly technically correct and laconic answer. Thanks.
This guy belongs to the family Sminthuridae.
I used to count mites and collembola under a scope all summer. Talk about tedious.
Frank Ashwood has some great photos like this one on Instagram and he’s worth the follow
I think it’s Dicyrtomina ornata, but I don’t know anything about identification.
We should get Frank on Lemmy, or Pixelfed. I stopped using Instagram and use https://pixey.org/Stilling now.
